BackHug is a health care device company that has developed a robotic physiotherapy device (‘Robo-Physio’) which aims to improve the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), chronic back pain and other health conditions.
The device aims to allow treatment to support self-management for patients without a professional practitioner being present. The Company is initially targeting MS and chronic back pain sufferers, but the Company also believes that the device has the potential to benefit patients with other health conditions.
The Pacla Robo Physio aims to imitate the effect of a manual back massage, with up to 36 mechanical ‘fingers’ that can be programmed to deliver a customised massage based on the curvature of each patient’s back and the location of their back pain. The intention is for future versions to feature sensors that detect and automatically adapt to the patients’ weight and posture, making self-management of pain even easier and more effective.
